Bid Night 2009 | SigEp Takes the Lead
Written by Nicholas H.M. Skefos

The Texas Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon virtually doubled its size overnight. Spring recruitment, led by Brother Jonathon Koh, was a huge success.  The 47 actives welcomed the 40 new brothers to the chapter January 18. The new member class has an outstanding average cumulative GPA of 3.393.

Not only did the Texas Upsilon chapter grow, but also SigEp led all nine houses at SMU in new members. Other houses ranged from 17 to 31, but none matched SigEp’s 40.

Of those new members, six are President Scholars, two are Student Senators, and two are Presidents of their Residence Hall. The list goes on. Three are Rotunda Scholars, two are SMU Distinguished Scholars, one is a Hilltop Scholar, and finally one is a Business Scholar. Three are Emerging Leaders, two are members of Mustang 11, and one is an Eagle Scout.

The mascot of Southern Methodist University is a Shetland pony named Peruna. Many students interview and try out for the coveted position of being a Peruna Handler. Currently at SMU, there are four male Peruna Handlers, and all four are now SigEps.

Texas Upsilon firmly believes in the Balanced Man Program. We seek brothers with a Sound Mind and a Sound Body, and they sought us.  We believe this year’s class will be a great addition and help build great things for SigEp at SMU.
